Commissioner Anthony P. Vainieri Jr.
Department of Public Works Commissioner Anthony P. Vainieri, Jr. was born and raised in the Township of North Bergen, where he attended Horace Mann grammar school and graduated from North Bergen High School. He attained a degree in funeral service and is the co-owner and manager of the Vainieri Funeral Home.
Since becoming the Public Works Commissioner, he has overseen the installation of more than 100 speed bumps in the township, the repaving of numerous roads, and the Bergenline Avenue reconstruction and beautification project.
Commissioner Vainieri is the former chairman of the Hudson County Democratic Organization and serves the Township of North Bergen on the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Committee. He is the former chairman of the Hudson County Board of Commissioners, as well as the former chairman of the North Bergen Zoning Board of Adjustment. Previously a member of the North Bergen Housing Authority and a school board member of the Hudson County Schools of Technology Board of Education, he also served as chief of staff to North Bergen Mayor Nicholas J. Sacco.
As Hudson County commissioner he worked tirelessly to revitalize James J. Braddock Hudson County Park, including building new recreation fields, creating a new 9/11 monument and a veterans memorial, and establishing new activities such as the annual Hudson County Fair, farmers markets, and car shows.
The son of former North Bergen Commissioner and State Assemblyman Anthony P. Vainieri, Anthony has two children, Anthony III and Antonia.
