Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Parks & Recreation Commissioner Hugo Cabrera launched a new community garden at the downtown Recreation Center & Library on Wednesday, May 8.

 

A dozen raised wooden planters were installed on the outdoor balcony near the exercise area on the second floor, with various free plants and vegetables available for residents to select, grow, cultivate, and harvest in their own section.

 

A large group of residents including many children attended the launch on Wednesday, showing off their green thumbs in the new garden.

 

Helping to kick off the initiative were Commissioners Allen Pascual and Anthony Vainieri, Assemblyman Julio Marenco, County Commissioner Robert Baselice, numerous police officers, and many other local officials.
