EMS Upgrades Fleet with Three New Ambulances
March 08, 2024North Bergen’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has acquired three new “fresh from the factory” ambulances over the past six months to augment their fleet. All three are Type 3 rear-wheel-drive, box-style ambulances designed to operate with peak efficiency on North Bergen’s streets.
Two of the three new ambulances were purchased using grant funding, saving North Bergen taxpayers over $260,000.
This brings the fleet to six ambulances, including one other Type 3 plus two bigger four-wheel-drive models for inclement weather and heavy-duty service. Two of the three new ambulances, acquired in July of 2023 and January of 2024, are already in use. The newest, which was just delivered, will be on the streets in about a month once it is fully outfitted and passes state inspection.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco visited the EMS station house on Wednesday, Mar. 6 to view the new ambulances, joined by Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Allen Pascual, Claudia Rodriguez, and Anthony Vainieri, along with Township Administrator Janet Castro, EMS Chief David Prina, County Commissioner Robert Baselice, NHRFR Executive Director Michael DeOrio, and numerous police and EMS personnel.
