The Township of North Bergen Housing Authority (NBHA) was recently recognized for its commitment to its residents during the pandemic by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), and will be presented with the prestigious “Community Impact Award” at the NAHRO National Conference & Exhibition on Thursday, Sept. 22, in San Diego.

 

The NBHA serves a largely Latino/minority community. They reserve 811 of their 986 public housing units for the elderly and/or disabled. The transportation services, which many depended upon during the pandemic, were halted during times of quarantine. The NBHA staff established partnerships with regional warehouse distributors who occasionally donate large quantities of necessities and household items for those in need, as they found alternatives to provide essential household items and fresh food products to the elderly, disabled, and less mobile tenants.

 

A member of the NBHA staff will attend the national conference to accept the award, participate in education sessions, make valuable new contacts, develop relationships, and research new housing products, technologies, and solutions.
