Mayor & Commissioners Cut Ribbon Opening ‘Eats on 79 Marketplace’

May 13, 2022

The Township of North Bergen held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 6, 2022 to mark the opening of a new deli in town: Eats on 79 Marketplace, located on 7901 John F. Kennedy Blvd. Mayor Nicholas Sacco cut the ribbon officially opening the New York-style deli, accompanied by Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Julio Marenco and Allen Pascual, County Commissioner Anthony Vainieri, and Parking Authority Executive Director Bob Baselice.

Owners Wahlid Alkandi and his uncle Mohammed Quaid operate seven similar food establishments in New York and jumped at the opportunity to bring their experience and expertise to their home neighborhood in New Jersey.

Previously a laundromat, the location was completely renovated and expanded as a combination deli and café, providing a HUGE menu of food options including their specialty sandwiches, smoothies and juices, paninis, wraps, salads, burgers, pastries, shakes, coffee, and much more. Various groceries are also available for pickup.

Already a hit with local residents and students, East on 79 Marketplace is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. with takeout or eat-in service and free wi-fi in their dining room. They will be providing delivery service starting next month and hope to expand to 24-hour service in the near future.
