Hudson County Offering Emergency Rental & Utility Assistance
April 06, 2022The Hudson County Emergency Rental Assistance 2 Program can provide back rent and/or utility assistance for households who have fallen behind as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
In order to qualify for assistance through this application, the household must meet certain criteria:
- Must be a Hudson County resident with the exception of Jersey City.
- Must show the need for rental or utility assistance is directly or indirectly due to COVID-19 pandemic.
- Must have been current on rent as of March 12, 2020.
- Must show that one or more household members qualified for unemployment or have experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due directly or indirectly to coronavirus pandemic.
- For rental assistance, you must have received a summons for eviction, notice to quit from landlord, or demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
- Must provide the following: copy of lease or other documentation showing residence; income documentation; some form of ID; documentation showing past due utility, rent, or eviction notice.
- Annual household income must not exceed 80% AMI, with priority given to households whose annual income is below 50%.
Only tenants may apply. No landlords. Applications are being accepted until Sept. 30, 2022.
