In light of the disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the State of New Jersey delayed the adoption of the State Fiscal Year Budget, thereby causing a delay in the certification of North Bergen’s 2020 tax rate.

As a result, the estimated third quarter 2020 property tax bill was recently mailed to residents. This bill is due August 1, 2020 with a ten-day grace period. Any payment received after August 10, 2020 will be charged interest back to August 1, 2020.

In approximately two to three months from now, residents will receive a final bill with three quarterly tax payment stubs. One stub will represent the fourth quarter tax bill, which is the final tax payment for 2020. The other two stubs will represent the preliminary first and second quarters of calendar year 2021.

After receiving these bills, residents will not receive another property tax bill for one year. In July of 2021, residents will receive one tax bill with four quarterly payment stubs.  

Property tax due dates are as follows: February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1, unless extended by the Township with State approval.
