Township of North Bergen Breaks Ground on New Paterson Plank Road Park
April 30, 2019Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the North Bergen Board of Commissioners held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Apr. 18, 2019 for a new park alongside Paterson Plank Road. Located next to a major new residential development, the park is part of a total revitalization of the Paterson Plank Road corridor from a primarily industrial area to a dynamic neighborhood with residential and commercial properties and open public space.
The $1.2 million park is primarily being funded by grants from the Hudson County Open Space Trust and the Community Development Block Grant programs, leaving only about $500,000 to be paid from the township's capital fund. The owners of the adjacent residential development known as Hudson Mews completed the initial site work and leveling at their own expense, saving taxpayers over $100,000.
Once completed later this year, the park will feature two playground sets for ages 2-5 and 5-12, a children’s spray park, a main gazebo with benches, decorative lighting, visitor parking, security cameras, passive areas, and fantastic views of the Meadowlands.
