The Township of North Bergen will hold a Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, October 28, at 6:30 p.m., which is expected to feature the swearing-in of Hugo Cabrera as Mayor of North Bergen and Nick Sacco, Jr. as Township Commissioner.

 

Cabrera will become the first Hispanic Mayor in North Bergen’s history, marking a significant milestone for a community where approximately 71% of residents identify as Hispanic or Latino, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The ceremony will also mark a new chapter in township government following the retirement of longtime Mayor Nicholas Sacco after 35 years of service as Mayor.

 

The ceremony will take place at the Nicholas J. Sacco Junior High School Auditorium, located at 2000 85th Street in North Bergen (formerly the High Tech High School campus). Township officials, community leaders, residents, family members and friends, and reporters are invited to attend.
