North Bergen Raises Irish Flag to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
March 20, 2026The Township of North Bergen held a flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, Mar. 17 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and honor Irish heritage and culture. The Irish flag was raised outside Town Hall by Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Allen Pascual, and Anthony Vainieri, along with Police Chief Robert Farley, Housing Authority Executive Director Julio Marencho, numerous police officers and township employees.
St. Patrick’s Day commemorates St. Patrick, a 5th-century Christian missionary credited with helping to spread Christianity throughout Ireland. Born in Britain, Patrick was captured and brought to Ireland as a teenager, returning later as a missionary to share the Christian faith and establish churches across the country.
Observed each year on Mar. 17, the holiday celebrates Ireland’s history, traditions, and lasting cultural influence around the world. North Bergen recognized the occasion by honoring the rich heritage and contributions of the Irish community.
