Mayor Cuts Ribbon Welcoming New Mediterranean Restaurant to Town

August 15, 2025

There’s a delicious new option for meals in North Bergen. Azrak Mediterranean Cuisine is now open at 4108 Tonnelle Avenue, offering a wide selection of Middle Eastern treats.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco cut the ribbon officially welcoming the restaurant to the Township on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025. Joining him were Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Claudia Rodriguez, and Anthony Vainieri, Assemblyman Julio Marenco, County Commissioner Robert Baselice, Police Chief Robert Farley, Fire Director Michael DeOrio, and numerous other officials and residents.

Azrak was opened by twin brothers Kabas and Eddie Mugrabi and family friend Ghaith Alawar to bring a taste of Middle Eastern food, culture, and heritage to North Bergen. Alawar previously owned a restaurant in Jordan and the Mugrabi brothers from Syria brought further expertise in the restaurant industry to the venture. Together they offer recipes handed down through generations and the finest in customer service and hospitality.

Formerly a pizzeria, the building was gutted and completely renovated into a pleasant, comfortable dining space. The menu offers something for everyone, with meat, fish, and vegetarian options including favorites like shish kebab, lamb chops, shawarma, tabbouleh salad, falafel, hummus, and much more, in addition to western fare like cheeseburgers and chicken tenders. Beverages range from standard drinks to Arabic tea and Turkish coffee, with an array of exotic desserts. Expect to see daily specials added to the menu soon.

Azrak is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Visit them online at www.azrakrestaurant.com or call 201-330-0260.
