Major Improvements Coming to Bergenline Ave. Between 71st & 79th Streets
March 21, 2025Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Public Works Commissioner Anthony Vainieri are pleased to announce upcoming improvements to Bergenline Avenue between 71st Street and 79th Street.
Phase one of the project is set to begin in early April 2025. The goal is to elevate the streetscape and aesthetics of the area while making it more pedestrian-friendly. Key highlights of the project include:
- Milling, paving, and striping the roadway to enhance driving conditions.
- Replacing all existing concrete curb, sidewalk, and driveway aprons, including locations at and around ADA ramps.
- Upgrading handicap ramps to ADA-compliant ramps with approved truncated domes.
- Adding a 2-foot-wide brick paver strip between the curb and the pedestrian travel path for visual appeal.
- Replacing all existing traffic striping and markings, including curb paint, and adding the NB street logo and decorative crosswalks at the intersection of 79th Street and Bergenline Avenue.
- Removing existing trees and stumps, replacing them with new native shade trees in updated locations.
- Installing new banner poles to provide a platform for community announcements.
- Installing a new four-faced decorative streetscape clock at the intersection of 79th Street and Bergenline Avenue, adding charm to the area.
- Painting the existing pedestrian lights to enhance their appearance and functionality.
- Energy-efficient LED lighting, which has already been installed, providing better illumination while maintaining an environmentally friendly approach.
- Additional improvements.
This initiative is one of many revitalization efforts the administration has launched to strengthen the vitality of our economic district, promote a more walkable community, and enhance the overall quality of life for both residents and businesses.
