North Bergen Library Opens Temporary Uptown Location at 81st Street VFW
February 07, 2025The North Bergen Free Public Library celebrated the grand opening of its temporary uptown location at 510 81st Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2294, the event brought out a packed crowd who enjoyed light refreshments, face painting, balloon creations, and other activities.
The $3 million renovation of the main library at 8411 Bergenline Avenue is funded by a grant from the New Jersey State Library, secured in partnership with the North Bergen Health Department, as well as federal award number CPFFNO185 awarded to the State of New Jersey by the US Department of Treasury. While construction is underway, this temporary space ensures residents continue to have access to books, technology, and community programs.
North Bergen Commissioners Hugo Cabrera, Anthony Vainieri, Claudia Rodriguez, and Allen Pascual, along with Executive Director of the North Bergen Free Public Library Sai Rao, Director of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) Dave Hanson, Assemblyman Julio Marenco, and Hudson County Commissioner Bob Baselice, all spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of keeping library services accessible during renovations. VFW Commander Joseph Masalta, VFW Vice-Commander Eric Crafton, and VFW New Jersey District 3 Commander Derek Farthing were among those in attendance, emphasizing the VFW’s commitment to serving the local community.
