Many local residents took advantage of the opportunity to receive services from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission without having to leave their hometown of North Bergen. The MVC came to them instead on Wednesday, Nov. 27 when the mobile unit set up shop in the parking lot between the Terrace Building and Meadow Hill on Columbia Avenue.

 

The event was sponsored by Mayor Nicholas Sacco and County Commissioner Robert Baselice, who were joined by Assemblyman Julio Marenco to greet attendees.

 

Residents snapped up all the appointments and were happy to visit locally rather than having to travel to an MVC facility and potentially wait on long lines. Many visited to get NJ REAL IDs, the new federal requirement for state-issued driver licenses and non-driver IDs to help prevent fraudulent identification. Starting May 7, 2025, citizens who typically use their driver license or non-driver ID to fly within the U.S. will need either a REAL ID or a valid U.S. passport or another federally approved form of identification. (The standard New Jersey driver license can still be used for driving.)

 

Other residents stopped by the mobile unit to renew their registration, turn in license plates, get duplicate/replacement titles or registration, or other services.
