Detective Frank Mena Honored with Retirement Walkout Ceremony
August 30, 2024On Friday, Aug. 30, the North Bergen Police Department and township employees gathered to honor Detective Frank Mena, who is retiring after an esteemed career of dedicated service.
Detective Mena began his law enforcement career on May 25, 1988, after graduating from the Bergen County Police Academy. He initially served in the Street Crimes Unit before transitioning to the Patrol Division the same year. In 1998, he was reassigned to the Traffic Unit, where he would spend the remainder of his career until his retirement.
Throughout his tenure, Detective Mena earned numerous certifications in Traffic Investigation, showcasing his expertise in this critical field. His contributions have significantly advanced traffic investigations and enforcement efforts, earning him multiple accolades, including five awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). In 2005, he achieved a remarkable milestone with 18 DWI arrests—the highest in Hudson County that year. Additionally, he has received several departmental awards, including one Class B and Unit Award, as well as eleven Class C and eleven Class D awards.
Outside of his professional life, Detective Mena is married to Georgeann Ryan-Mena, and they have two children, Erin and Frank. He is also passionate about sports and has utilized his enthusiasm to support the Special Olympics by participating in community events such as amateur wrestling, flag football, and softball.
Detective Mena’s presence will be greatly missed within our community. As he embarks on this new chapter of his life, we extend our warmest wishes for his future endeavors and a fulfilling retirement.
