There was Plenty of Wonder at the Summer’s First Concert in Waterfront Park
June 28, 2024The first live concert of the summer was a special one, with the One Hit Wonderers playing a spectacular set of popular tunes from bands that rocketed to fame and then fizzled back into oblivion after a single hit.
The audience in beautiful Waterfront Park sang and danced to fantastic tunes from across the years and all over the musical map, from “Venus” to “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” to “Sugar Sugar” to “Time Won’t Let Me.” There was something for everyone, and the talented band played to perfection.
The One Hit Wonderers feature an impressive lineup of outstanding musicians and vocal artists who have played with a Who’s Who of rock royalty from Chuck Berry to Roger Daltrey; from Loggins and Messina to Aretha Franklin; from jazz legends Wynton Marsalis, Larry Coryell, and Victor Wooten to classical virtuoso Leonard Bernstein, among others.
Waterfront Park is jointly owned and maintained by North Bergen and Guttenberg, with a spectacular backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. There’s plenty of free seating and it’s a marvelous place to catch a live performance as the sun goes down. Shows there are presented by Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Township Commissioners in conjunction with Mayor Wayne Zitt and the Guttenberg Town Council.
Upcoming in Waterfront Park is a “Here’s Elton & Elvis Tribute Concert” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jul 5. Mark your calendars.
