Tips for Staying Safe in Extreme Heat
June 19, 2024A heat advisory is now in effect for Wednesday through Thursday, and excessive heat watches are in effect for Friday through Sunday. Max heat index values on Wednesday will generally be in the low to mid 90s in the advisory areas, and in the mid to upper 90s on Thursday. From Friday through Sunday, max heat index values in the watch area will be in the upper 90s to around 100.
Here are some important tips for staying safe in extreme heat:
- Stay hydrated
- If you have to work outside, try to work in the morning or evening
- NEVER leave children or pets in a parked car
- Check on your neighbors, especially those vulnerable to the heat

There is also a potential cold front on Friday which may touch off some afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. The strongest storms will be capable of damaging winds and heavy rain that could result in localized flooding.
