About the Program
The Township of North Bergen participates in New Jersey’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Program, administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) through the Urban Enterprise Zone Authority (UEZA).
The UEZ Program is designed to revitalize local economies by encouraging business investment, expansion, and job creation in designated communities.
Businesses located within North Bergen’s UEZ are eligible to apply for state-administered tax and financial incentives that lower operating costs and promote long-term growth.

Program Benefits
Businesses certified under the UEZ Program may receive several benefits, including:
- Reduced Sales Tax Rate – Charge customers 3.3125% sales tax, which is half the statewide rate.
- Sales Tax Exemptions – Purchases of qualified capital equipment, facility expansions, and building improvements are exempt from sales tax.
- Employee Tax Credits – Businesses may be eligible for credits for hiring or training new employees.
- Financial Assistance – Access to low-interest financing, grants, and other development opportunities through the UEZ Program.
These incentives help participating businesses reinvest in their operations, expand their workforce, and contribute to North Bergen’s economic vitality.
