FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
North Bergen High School held
Annual Violence Awareness Program
The North Bergen Board of
Education coordinated efforts with the NB Police Department to present their
annual Violence Awareness Program. The Program this year consisted of a very
informative talk about Internet Threat and Conflict Resolution.
The goal of the program
was to make parents and members of our community fully aware of the
potential danger that unsupervised Internet usage may represent to our
youth.
Mr. John Belluardo,
coordinator of the event, welcomed a large audience of interested parents,
brothers, sisters and students that were eager to learn about violence
prevention. Then, Assistant Superintendent and Mayor Nick Sacco reminded the
attendees about the importance of working together as a community for the
safety of our kids. “ North Bergen has experienced an important reduction in
crime during the last year and we hope to continue that trend,” said Sacco.
Police Officer Joseph
Sitty, Jr. conducted a very informative session in which parents learned
about risky web sites, as well as important tips to help their kids stay
away from Internet predators. This session was followed by a very
interesting talk on Conflict Resolution skills presented by Consultant John
Monroe.
Parents, teachers,
counselors and students participated with questions and shared their
experiences during a very instructive Q&A session.
The NB Board of Education
holds this program annually in a continuous effort to make our community
aware of the many potential risks our youth faces today, and how parents and
guardians can help their safety.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CRIME RATE DROPS 22.8% IN NORTH BERGEN
The annual Uniform Crime Report released by the NJ
State Police reveals a consistent reduction of criminality in the Town of
North Bergen for 2006.
The town’s total crime index went down 22.8% from
2005 with an important decrease in the number of violent and non-violent
crimes. Mayor Nicholas J. Sacco recognized the important role that Public
Safety Commissioner Theresa Ferraro plays in our fight against crime.
At the same time, Mayor Sacco congratulated Police
Chief William Galvin for his great work as the leader of the North Bergen
Police Department. “These results prove that North Bergen has become a safer
place to live since 2005. Chief Galvin has done an excellent job,” the Mayor
said. “Our Town thanks him and all our Police Officers for creating a safer
community for all.”
Sacco also mentioned that a tough Street Crime Unit
covering different areas of the town 7 days a week, plus an increase in the
number of undercover officers throughout North Bergen have been an important
part of the successful strategy the town has implemented during the last
year.
Chief Galvin recognizes this achievement as the
result of a coordinated effort in which the entire Police Department has
participated. “We will continue in our battle to guarantee the safety and
protection of all North Bergen residents,” Chief Galvin concluded.
