Mayor Nicholas Sacco visited the Rise and Shine Adult Medical Day Care Center on Friday, June 10 to present the staff with a plaque commemorating 14 years of service to the seniors in the community. The event was marked by a day-long party attended by about 130 seniors in two shifts: one in the morning and a second installment in the afternoon.
Attendees were treated to delicious catered meals as well as a DJ and live entertainment. The dance floor was packed with senior celebrants, enjoying spirited Latin music in the penthouse community room atop the Theresa Ferraro Building at 6201 Grand Ave.
Rise and Shine provides extensive day care programs for seniors with medical needs, as mandated by the state. About two-thirds of the staff have worked there since it opened 14 years ago. “We’re like a family,” said co-owner Frieda Finkelstein. “We stuck together.”
