The winter storm that we are experiencing is currently expected to wind down in the late afternoon, followed by extremely cold temperatures. Employees from North Bergen’s Department of Public Works and the Parking Authority have been on the streets since before dawn fighting with the elements to keep the township’s thoroughfares safe and passable.
The DPW has 16 trucks out battling the snow, with a large supply of salt in reserve and more on order for immediate delivery, although as the media has reported, salt is less effective in the frigid temperatures. Township employees will use a variety of methods to continue clearing streets, sidewalks, and lots both during the storm and afterward.
The Recreation Center is open as a warming center until 9 p.m. at 6300 Meadowview Ave. No power outages have been reported in the township as a result of the storm.
