It was like a visit to Santa’s workshop when the township held its annual Children’s Christmas Party at the Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 2. Nearly 600 kids ages infant to 9 years old were given the opportunity to choose free gifts ranging from Disney, Star Wars, and Superhero action figures to bicycles, Amazon Fire tablets, and drones.
The Rec Center staff created a wonderful setting for the event, complete with fireplace and stockings hung with care. Santa and Mrs. Claus completed the scene, joined by Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners to distribute the toys and pose for photos with the kids.
Kevin’s Tree Lot in Edgewater donated 30 Christmas trees that were raffled off to eager families. Food and beverages were provided courtesy of donations from ShopRite of North Bergen and Judicke’s Bakery in Bayonne.
Delighted kids got to choose their own gifts at the annual event. Anyone who missed the party can still register for one of the remaining gifts by visiting the Rec Center from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday of this week, after which the balance of the gifts will be donated to local churches and charities.
