Two North Bergen police officers were honored for deploying to Puerto Rico to assist with humanitarian aid projects in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Police Officers Robert Garcia and Johnny Sanchez, along with members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and NJ State Police and other emergency responders and soldiers, deployed to Bayamon and San Juan, Puerto Rico to perform law enforcement functions and deliver humanitarian aid for two weeks.
In recognition of their service, and for placing the lives and well-being of the people of Puerto Rico before their own personal safety and comfort, the two officers were honored with a proclamation from Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the North Bergen Board of Commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017.
Officers Garcia and Sanchez worked under the direction of the state police as part of an operation called NJ PRIDE – Puerto Rico Integrated Deployment Effort. The proclamation congratulated and commended them “for their selfless, dedicated, and heroic service to the people of Puerto Rico in the name of the Township of North Bergen, and its accredited police department which they serve.”
