As part of the national “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” campaign, Hudson County Sheriff’s Officers will be out in force from April 1 to 21, 2017 looking for distracted drivers and issuing tickets to anyone caught texting while driving. “Distracted driving is now one of the leading causes of crashes in the state and the country,” said Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari. “Last year over 3,000 people were killed nationwide in distracted driving related crashes.”
“U Drive, U Text, U Pay” is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and distributed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The sheriff’s office received a grant to use for enforcement and educational purposes.
Sheriff’s officers will continue random field patrols to target distracted drivers after April 21.
