North Bergen’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) not only respond to thousands of incidents annually throughout the township, offering critical medical services to residents in dire need, they also provide classes to teach residents essential skills to save lives themselves.
Every minute counts in an emergency. Classes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) teach the public how to perform manual chest compression and ventilation to individuals in cardiac arrest, potentially keeping patients alive until advanced treatment arrives.
Although CPR is strongly recommended as a life-saving measure, it should be performed in a specified manner. The public in general is urged to learn CPR from a qualified instructor for use in emergency situations. North Bergen’s EMS classes are certified by the American Heart Association.
Training is provided for adult and infant CPR and is available in Spanish. Free classes are offered as well as certification courses for a fee. Classes are typically held every other Saturday, with more frequent classes arranged as needed. Click on the link below to sign up, or call (201) 238-5281 for more information.
