Officers from the North Bergen Police Department took it all off for charity on Wednesday, November 30.
Took off their beards, that is. The NBPD held a “No-Shave November” awareness and fundraising event, with each participating officer donating $50 to fightcolorectalcancer.org. After growing a month’s worth of beard, the officers gathered for a “Shave It Off” event at Eye Contact Vision Center, where their faces were shaved by Rene of Jagged Edge Spa and Salon of North Bergen.
A total of 58 officers (out of the department’s 120) participated in the event, raising $2,900. Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual was among those receiving shaves, along with Eye Contact owner Robert Ceragno, who contributed an additional $500 to the cause.
Ceragno is a CRC survivor and tireless fundraiser in the fight against the deadly disease. Colorectal cancer, a preventable disease, is the number two leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women in the U.S.
Also attending the event was North Bergen Health Care Officer/Director Janet Castro.
