The North Bergen Police Department on Thursday, Oct. 13 received accredited status after achieving 100 percent compliance with the 114 required standards, containing over 300 benchmarks for quality and professional police service.
This achievement is the result of an intensive three-year process to better the practices, policies, procedures, training, and facilities of the North Bergen Police Department. Accreditation signifies comprehensive and effective leadership through professionally based policy development, and indicates a law enforcement program that is thorough, complete, and based on standards that reflect professional best practices.
North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd and the North Bergen Police Department Command Staff, supported by Accreditation Managers Lt. Christine Klag and Sgt. Anthony Caramucci, attended the official hearing of the State Accreditation Commission on Oct. 13. Chief Dowd provided testimony in support of the department’s accreditation application.
