The North Bergen Fire Prevention Bureau conducts State mandated fire inspections throughout the Township. All buildings that are inspected must meet New Jersey Fire Code requirements. All inspectors are certified by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety. The purpose of these inspections are to enforce the New Jersey Fire Code and educate the public's awareness about the danger of fire.
I'm selling my house (1-2 Family, Condo) and I need to know what paperwork I need from the North Bergen Fire Prevention Bureau for the closing?
You will need an application for smoke/carbon monoxide detector(s) and also a fire extinguisher certificate. The application can be printed out from this site via the online forms page or you can call our office at 201.392.2162 and request a fax or mailing of the application. Return the application to us with the required $50.00 fee and an appointment date will be setup for your inspection. A form will accompany the application showing you where your smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher should be located. If you pass the inspection the certificate will be issued to you at the site. Give this certificate to your real estate agent or your lawyer for the closing.
I would like to make a complaint concerning a possible fire code violation or dangerous condition. How can I do that?
Remember if this an emergency always dial 911 for help immediately. You can call our office at 201.392.2162 Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm to report complaints. Give us the information such as the address and the nature of the complaint and an inspector will respond to the location to determine if a violation exists. Complaints can be anonymous.
I had an inspection done at my premises and recieved a fire code violation sheet order to correct. I do not understand this paperwork and am not sure what to do next?
The inspector who did the inspection has his name on front of the sheet you recieved. Call our office at 201.392.2162 Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm and ask to speak with him. If he is not in, leave your name and phone number and the inspector will get back to you to answer all your questions.
I would like to learn more about Fire Safety and Prevention. Does North Bergen have any type of program that teaches this?
The North Bergen Fire Prevention Bureau will respond to any request for fire safety information. We visit schools, churches, senior citizen groups, Hi-Rise buildings, civic organizations, multiple dwellings, and hospitals. Call 201.392.2162 Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm and put a request in for a Fire Safety Presentation and we will setup an appointment.
